On April 8, Baeksang Arts Awards revealed the complete list of 2024 nominees on their website and social media. The nominees feature various prominent programs between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024. It includes “Moving,” “My Dearest,” “The Good Bad Mother,” and more.
What’s intriguing, “Queen of Tears” actor Kim Soo Hyun also emerged as one of the Best Actor nominees for the Baeksang Awards 2024. Despite the fact that this amazing Korean drama had just released recently, Kim Soo Hyun’s impressive performance had resulted in his immediate nomination.
And yet, fans of “Queen of Tears” still expressed their utmost disappointment in the nomination result.
What REALLY Happened?
The list of 2024 Baeksang nominees that gained attention the most was regarding the curated selection of this year’s Best Actress.
On the list of 2024 nominees, Baeksang Arts Awards selected actresses Ra Mi Ran (“The Good Bad Mother”), Ahn Eun Jin (“My Dearest”), Uhm Jung Hwa (“Doctor Cha”), Honey Lee (“Knight Flower”), and Lim Ji Yeon (“Lies Hidden in My Garden”).
Do you see something peculiar? That’s right.
You may have noticed that there was no mention of Kim Ji Won’s name in the Baeksang nominees 2024. Even though its lead actor, Kim Soo Hyun, immediately made a grand entrance on the Baeksang 2024 nominations, “Queen of Tears” lead actress Kim Ji Won’s name was nowhere near the list.
This then triggered the anger of “Queen of Tears” fans. They became furious at the selection, resulting in massive criticism at the award ceremony. After all, the “Queen of Tears” release date was on March 9, which was supposed to be eligible for a nomination.
What’s more, the drama recently broke the staggering 20% viewership ratings mark. And everything was thanks to its impressive storyline and, most importantly, the main actors, Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won.
Therefore, the exclusion of “Queen of Tears” and its actress Kim Ji Won from the Best Drama and Best Actress nominations, respectively, was utterly astonishing.
“Queen of Tears” Fans Heavily Criticize the Nominations
Due to this result, “Queen of Tears” fans took their anger to social media. They questioned the absence of both Kim Ji Won and the drama from Baeksang nominees 2024.
