A netizen’s post on an online community titled “A Netherlands Building Bought with Song Hye Kyo’s Money” has gained the world’s attention. It was said that Song Hye Kyo secretly helped a Korean couple purchase the first floor of the Yi Jun Peace Museum in The Netherlands. However, a professor from Sungshin Women’s University said that the rumor was incorrect and merely a misunderstanding.
Song Hye Kyo Helped the Owners of the Yi Jun Peace Museum in The Netherlands
The Korean couple had acquired and operated a building in The Netherlands as the Yi Jun Peace Museum. Unfortunately, they couldn’t afford to buy the first floor.
It was said that The Glory star, Song Hye Kyo, donated some money for the couple to purchase the first floor of the building. And now, the entire building is a memorial hall and belongs to Yi Jun Peace Museum.
However, the poster mentioned several articles didn’t talk about Song Hye Kyo’s good deeds. Instead, they only talked about other sponsors.
The poster of “A Netherlands Building Bought with Song Hye Kyo’s Money” included a screenshot of a comment from someone who visited the museum two years ago. The comment said that the owner told them about Song Hye Kyo.
“I went two years ago and they didn’t have a first floor then. I remember the person in charge brought me to the first floor smiling and telling me that they bought the first floor and was going to expand all because of Song Hye Kyo’s hefty donation.”
Additionally, the poster clarified that she is not Song Hye Kyo’s fan and that the post was not a sales post.
Song Hye Kyo’s Good Deeds
Nevertheless, it is not surprising considering the history of Song Hye Kyo’s good deeds. One of her donations is to help the Uljin wildfire victims through the National Red Cross of South Korea on March 7, 2022.
In March 2022, Song Hye Kyo collaborated with the Sungshin Women’s University Professor Seo Kyung Deok. They worked on the multilingual video, The Provisional Government’s Mistress Jung Jeong Hwa. Professor Seo Kyung Deok is a South Korean nationalist scholar and social activist promoting Korean cultural heritage overseas.
And recently, Song Hye Kyo became the narrator for the special Korean Independence Movement Day documentary Grandma Is Back. The documentary follows the story of Lee Yong Soo, a 96-year-old comfort woman survivor.
The Donation Report Was a Misunderstanding
However, soon after the original post spread, Professor Seo Kyung Deok cleared up the news regarding Song Hye Kyo’s donation to Yi Jun Peace Museum in The Netherlands.
According to a Korean media outlet, Professor Seo Kyung Deok said the information was “incorrect”. Then, he posted an SMS update to correct it.
“Starting with donating large-scale decorative artwork and sculptures to the Yi Jun Peace Museum, Hye Kyo and I also donated Korean signs and information boards. However, we did not separately donate funds to expand the museum’s first floor.”

That was another unsurprising news since Song Hye Kyo is known to collaborate with Professor Seo Kyung Deok for 12 years in this kind of donation. They have been donating Korean signboards, Korean language guidebooks, and historical replicas to many independent movement historic sites overseas. Professor Seo Kyung Deok and Song Hye Kyo have done this every year and donated to 30 places.
Her packed schedule as one of the top Korean actresses would never cease Song Hye Kyo from doing good deeds for her country and people who are in need.
