The South Korean superstar BTS appeared in Good Morning America’s Summer Concert Series on Friday, May 28. BTS kicked off the giant screens in New York City’s Times Square with two performances of their English-language singles, Butter and Dynamite. However, the show lead ARMY to trend ‘Free BTS’ as the host mistreated the idols and talked a lot about the culture of Kpop as the whole industry instead of focusing on BTS, the guest star.
BTS Performed ‘Butter’ & ‘Dynamite’ in Good Morning America, But Lead ARMY To Trend ‘Free BTS’
BTS Performed ‘Butter’ and ‘Dynamite’
The septet dressed in a sleek all-white outfit, with a giant screen behind them that swirled with magenta and blue. We can’t take our eyes on the septet’s impeccable performance for the smooth number.
For their second performance, the stage was decorated as if they were at the beach at sunset, complete with the giant umbrella, surfing board, and hammock. The scene was then transformed to a desert-scape, and back again to the beach. Their ‘Dynamite’ choreography was more relaxed and fun.
Good Morning America hosts angered ARMYs
Unfortunately, the excitement turned to the disappointment of ARMY. The segment was introduced at first as taking a look into how BTS music is uniting fans worldwide. However, instead of talking about the journey of BTS, T. J. Holmes introduced the viewers to the Kpop industry as a whole. It was worse because the show showed clips of SuperM, TWICE, aespa, and others.
BTS is new to the scene
Not only that, ARMY was furious because T. J. called ‘The World’s Bestselling Artist of 2020’, BTS, ‘new to the scene.’
ARMY trended ‘Free BTS’ to voice their disappointment

We can see that ARMYs were terribly upset by what happened to BTS in Good Morning America. The BTS fandom voiced their disappointment in the comment section of the YouTube video and trended ‘Free BTS’ on Twitter.
Yeah I agree, the music they make is not kpop anymore like other kpop groups, they do more like western pop like other celebrities here in the US— dani~💙 (@luffyswife4ever) May 28, 2021
Good Morning America has been criticized several times
This was not the first time Good Morning America was criticized because of their choice of words. Previously, they also called Oscar-Winning Minari Actress Youn Yuh Jung a ‘breakout star,’ which ‘breakout‘ means ‘come to a sudden or smashing success especially in comparison to previous efforts.’
