Kpop fans, the time for ASTRO main vocalist and eldest hyung, MJ (Kim Myung Jun), to temporarily bid farewell to his fans is apparently coming soon. Amid the high excitement and hectic preparation for their upcoming comeback in 2022, ASTRO MJ has announced the enlistment date for his military service.
On April 9, 3rd gen Kpop diamonds ASTRO conducted a fan meeting for the celebration of their 6th-anniversary debut at SK Olympic Handball Stadium, Seoul. Towards the end of the fan meeting, ASTRO member and main vocalist MJ suddenly went emotional with tearful eyes and a breaking voice. Then, he suddenly revealed that the fan meeting was his last before his military enlistment.
“I’m so sorry, but today’s fan meeting is the last one before I enlist in the military.”

When is MJ Military Enlistment Date?
Further in the announcement, ASTRO MJ elaborate that he would be enlisting for the military service in early May. He made a promise to his fans that he would return as an improved and more mature version of himself. And as the eldest hyung of ASTRO, MJ also asked his fans to take care of his dongsaeng members on his behalf.
“I will be enlisting in the military on May 9. I apologize for delivering this kind of news today, during the time when we’re finally meeting in person for the first time in a long while. But I did it precisely because of how much today is so precious for me, and I think it will be the day I remember most.
It’s my happiness to meet AROHA for the first time in a long while. So I promise to return as a cooler and more mature version of myself. So please enjoy our fan meeting until the very end today, and please take good care of my fellow ASTRO members.

ASTRO MJ Will Be Joining the Military Band
Immediately after ASTRO MJ confirmed his enlistment date for the military service, their Fantagio agency released an official statement.
According to Fantagio, ASTRO MJ will indeed enlist for his military service on May 9. Then, after completing his basic training, the ASTRO main vocalist will continue fulfilling his duty as a member of the military band.

Although Jinjin, Rocky, Moonbin, Eunwoo, Sanha, and all AROHA know that the day of ASTRO MJ military enlistment will come, they don’t expect it’ll be this fast. Moreover, they don’t expect the announcement to be so emotional.

What About ASTRO 2022 Comeback?
Moreover, this news came as a huge shock for most Kpop fans because previously, ASTRO had announced their 2022 comeback in a complete 6-member formation. However, now that ASTRO MJ has confirmed his enlistment date for military service, will he be joining the comeback?
Up until today, there is yet any official confirmation from ASTRO’s agency, Fantagio. However, considering that ASTRO MJ military enlistment date will be on May 9, chances are ASTRO had scheduled their 2022 comeback earlier. The most ideal date would be around May 1 – 5. This is considering they would have to prepare for the comeback stages and promotional activities as well before ASTRO MJ enlistment date for his military service.
Will You Wait for MJ’s Grand Return?
Finally, the rule in South Korea stated that we can only postpone military enlistment only until 28 years old. Meanwhile, ASTRO MJ just turned 28 in March this year, which means his military service cannot be delayed anymore.
