The Directors Guild of Korea (DGK) has officially announced the list of nominees for the 23rd Director’s Cut Awards in 2025. Korean movie “EXHUMA” and the Korean drama “A Killer Paradox” received the most nominations in their respective categories. Additionally, Lee Byung Hun andYo Ah In from “The Match” are competing for the Best Actor Award. Let’s explore the complete list below.
The 23rd Director’s Cut Awards 2025 Nominees

In 1998, a group of young Korean filmmakers introduced the Director’s Cut Awards under the name ‘Director’s Cut.’ Then, in 2017, the Director’s Cut awards ceremony was held under the name of the Directors Guild of Korea (DGK). In 2022, the Directors Cut Awards added drama series, recognizing the excellence of creators and their works.
Director’s Cut Awards ceremony is different from other award ceremonies. It celebrates creativity and innovation with a relaxed and fun atmosphere. This year, the 23rd edition of Director’s Cut Awards will take place on May 20 at 7 p.m. KST.
The Korean directors in their respective fields selected the nominees and winners by votes. This year, the nominees consist of outstanding works directed by permanent members and associate members of the DGK, which were released between January 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.
The Director’s Cut Awards features 13 categories for Film and Series. These include the Best Director Award, Best Screenplay Award, Best New Director Award, and Vision Award to honor creators. Meanwhile, to celebrate the actors, there are the Best Actor Award, Best Actress Award, New Actress Award, and New Actor Award. For the actor categories, the Directors Cut Awards do not differentiate between main and supporting roles. The awards are given based on the gender and performance of the actors and actresses in the drama or film.
“EXHUMA,” “A Killer Paradox,” Yoo Ha In vs. Lee Byung Hun
This year, the 2024 box office “EXHUMA” received the most nominations in six categories, including Best Director (Jang Jae Hyun), Best Screenplay (Jang Jae Hyun), Best Actress (Kim Go Eun), Best Actor (Choi Min Sik), New Actress (Kim Ji An), and New Actor (Lee Do Hyun).
Following the occult movie is the 2025 movie, “The Match,” with four nominations in 3 categories, including Best Director (Kim Hyung Joo), Best Screenplay (Kim Hyung Joo and Yoon Jong Bin), and Best Actor (Yoo Ah In and Lee Byung Hun).
The nomination of actor Yoo Ah In, who was released from prison in February after a drug scandal last year, has sparked controversy. Furthermore, similar to the rivalry between Lee Chang Ho and his teacher Cho Hun Hyun in the Go competition—as depicted in “The Match” and real life, Yoo Ah In and his senior, Lee Byung Hun, are competing for Best Actor at this year’s Director’s Cut Awards.
In addition, the movies “The Land of the Morning Calm” and “House of the Seasons” also received four nominations.
Further, the series “A Killer Paradox” leads the Drama Series nomination with six nominations in four categories: Best Director (Lee Chang Hee), Best Actor (Lee Hee Jun, Choi Woo Shik), New Actress Award (Jung Yi Seo), and New Actor Award (Kim Yo Han, Hyun Bong Sik).
Here are the complete nominations for the 23rd edition of the Directors Cut Awards across 13 categories.
