MEOVV Receives Horrible Review for “MEOW” Debut Song on IZM
Following the massive anticipation of the members’ line up and various rumors before its official debut, the Korean and international Kpop communities have been directing the spotlight on THE BLACK LABEL new Kpop group MEOVV more than ever.
And yet, after the group finally debuted, the Kpop communities continued giving MEOVV numerous mixed reactions and issues despite its brilliant showcase of skills, visuals, and talent.
Not only that, but South Korea’s most influential music platform, IZM, has now given a horrible *1 review on the MEOVV debut song, “MEOW.”
On September 17, KST, music critic Shin Dong Gyu posted an official review of the “MEOW” debut song by THE BLACK LABEL Kpop group, MEOVV. And yet, the public did not expect that this catchy song only received *1 review, which has become one of the lowest possible ratings ever on the platforms.
For the record, IZM is one of the most influential music sites in South Korea, especially in terms of critical music analysis and reviews. Established in 2001 by music critic Im Jin Mo, IZM has built a reputation for offering thoughtful, unbiased, in-depth critiques across various music genres, including K-pop, hip-hop, and indie music.
Moreover, its detailed reviews often impact public discourse around Kpop releases within South Korea and international fans who follow the platform.

What Did IZM Say About THE BLACK LABEL New Kpop Group?
Without holding back on their words, music critic Shin Dong Gyu provides detailed reasons why the song received such a low rating. The review emphasized the meaningless “meow” sound, boring music, and hollow lyrics on MEOVV debut song, “MEOW.”
Finally, the review also declared the music a significant failure by a Kpop group carrying the name of the great Teddy Park’s THE BLACK LABEL, which had previously been highly anticipated. It also claimed that this failed debut only overshadowed and wasted the members’ talents.
“Out of the song’s short runtime (less than 3 minutes), a full minute is taken up by cat meowing sounds, which don’t seem to have any real purpose or meaning.
The repetition throughout the intro, outro, and even the chorus and rap parts feels weightless and gets tiring quickly. Plus, it drowns out the most important thing: the members’ voices.
While It looks like Teddy didn’t help compose this track, it’s honestly pretty disappointing for a debut song under his label.
Furthermore, the combination of bass and kick drums that carries the song feels mundane. And the 30-second instrumental break (probably meant to show off choreography) just makes the song forgettable.
The rhythm is repetitive, the lyrics are hard to hear, and the whole thing feels like a It doesn’t hit the mark visually or musically, leaving behind a vague, unfinished impression.
If there’s one highlight, it’s Gawon’s vocals. And yet the song still isn’t strong enough to showcase the other members.
Why does a song with a quick hook that’s easily forgotten seem more important than creating music worth replaying over and over?”
Shin Dong Gyu on IZM.
