The Plagiarism Accusation on Writer Park Ji Eun of “Queen of Tears” New Korean Drama
The much-awaited series “Queen of Tears,” featuring the dynamic duo Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, hit the screens on March 9. From the very beginning, the new Korean drama has captivated worldwide viewers. With Kim Soo Hyun’s performance receiving positive feedback, the series had received impressive ratings even from the very first episode.
Excitement for “Queen of Tears” has been growing since its early announcement, especially as it’s the third time Kim Soo Hyun teams up with renowned writer Park Ji Eun, known for hits like “My Love From The Star” and “Crash Landing on You.” With tvN putting significant effort into promoting this drama, it’s clear they’re aiming to make a splash in early 2024.
Unfortunately, behind all the glitz and glamor, there was a hidden mysterious case, almost forgotten due to the success of the writer’s project.
On March 8, an anonymous post went viral on the Korean media online community TheQoo. The post blatantly informed that there was a suicide attempt happening to the victim of a plagiarism case that happened to the writer of “Queen of Tears” Korean drama, Park Ji Eun.
What REALLY Happened?
Previously, writer Park Ji Eun of “Queen of Tears” new Korean drama had stirred up the South Korean filming industry with plagiarism controversies. Worse, the issue did not happen once but three times for her hit projects: “The Legend of the Blue Sea,” “My Love from the Star,” and “Crash Landing on You.”
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office had dismissed the case in 2017 against her work, “The Legend of the Blue Sea.” At the time, an aspiring writer accused Park Ji Eun of having plagiarized their works, but the court then dismissed this accusation.
Then, writer Park Ji Eun encountered another plagiarism allegation for her work, “My Love from the Stars.” And yet, at the time, she refuted the allegations.
“I have never heard of the ‘Seol-hee’ comic before. The first time I found out about it was when the media started talking about this matter..”

And finally, when “Crash Landing on You” went big in 2019, Park Ji Eun once again faced plagiarism controversies. Before the show officially aired, an aspiring new writer claimed Park Ji Eun copied their contest entries from 2013 to 2021. The work involves the story of a South Korean woman’s accidental landing and romance with a North Korean soldier.
However, as “Crash Landing on You” gained popularity, people overlooked these claims, and the new writer faced a lawsuit from the drama’s team. This new writer highlighted similarities between their contest script and the drama’s brief plot summary. Worse, due to the stress and exhaustion from Park Ji Eun’s lawsuit, the new writer even attempted suicide.
Reexamining the Plagiarism Case of “Queen of Tears” New Korean Drama Writer
With the massive responses to “Queen of Tears” new Korean drama, Korean netizens once again revisited all the multiple plagiarism issues.
The new post on TheQoo shared the complete letter of the new writer who became Park Ji Eun’s alleged victim. The letter then elaborated on how the victim’s mother had been suffering from dementia while the writer themselves were receiving psychiatric treatments.
Not only that, but the writer even allegedly attempted suicide while Park Ji Eun’s “Crash Landing on You” became extremely successful, and she received more glory with “Queen of Tears” new Korean drama.
“The aspiring writer (plagiarism victim) ’s mother is suffering from severe dementia, and the victim is undergoing psychiatric treatment and has attempted suicide.
On the other hand, the perpetrator is selling the remake rights in the US and enjoying the drama’s success. The leads, Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin, received everyone’s congratulations as they got married.
And after that, Park Ji Eun’s next work, starring Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won in tvN’s ‘Queen of Tears,’ is scheduled to be broadcast soon.”

You know, I have just finished reading a manhwa about someone who is reborn and time travel to 10 years before. She knows what books or films that will be successful in the future. Then she rewrite all those books and publish those books right before the original writer publish them - then adapt those into films - and gains popularity and wealth for herself. Meanwhile, the original authors are desperate knowing their works are plagiarized even before they publish.
Is it possible that it is happening in real life? 🤔🤔🤔
oh come on people, the human mind is so limited that that we have very few ideas that might be similar I actually wrote one of my books only to find someone else was writing similar scenarios. this can happen without even looking up at the person`s work. I don't think a writer will go out of their own strength to look for work to copy and publish. its the same with music there are few beats now and coincidences happen and people are always suing each other for having similar ideas. we don't know for a fact that this happened. I feel sorry for the persons mental situation but reading the story it feels as if they are trying to buy everyone's pity using their condition. looking at many false accusations going around in Korea once someone becomes famous I don't know why people are so quick to judge the famous one, instead of remaining neutral until will see the truth. the truth always prevails anyway. Taylor swift was right in saying best advice if someone wants to be a singer or a famous writer in this case. get the best lawyer cause they will always be people wanting to rip you off. and to those who are saying they wont watch the drama its all up to you because you have made your judgement based on allegations and not facts and you not watching will not change anything for the accused nor the accuser. FATE WILL TAKE ITS COURSE NOMATTER WHAT WE HUMANS DO.
