An exclusive evening of live music saw Spotify team up with indie rock band Silica Gel to create Speakeasy Live, a pop-up event that gave fans a front-row experience to a one-of-a-kind performance.

Held in the creative district of Seongsu, Seoul, Speakeasy Live invited select listeners—true supporters of Silica Gel’s journey on Spotify—for an intimate performance that blended music, storytelling, and immersive fan engagement. The event also marked the live debut of Silica Gel’s unreleased track, “南宮FEFERE” with Japanese Breakfast, ahead of its official release on July 10.

Spotify x Silica Gel “Speakeasy Live”: A Fan-First Event in the Heart of Seongsu

Known for its indie culture and vibrant creative scene, Seongsu served as the perfect backdrop for Speakeasy Live. Fans were chosen through a special draw, making the concert a personal and memorable event. This initiative reflects Spotify’s continued mission to bring artists and fans closer through meaningful real-world experiences, especially within Korea’s diverse and thriving music landscape.

Inspired by Korea’s underground music culture and hidden bar aesthetics, the Speakeasy Live venue was transformed into a music sanctuary. Attendees were welcomed with exclusive Silica Gel-themed merchandise, including wristbands, a lenticular logo card, a slogan towel, and a limited-edition pamphlet.

Inside, guests explored interactive zones like the Speakeasy Bar, which offered unique non-alcoholic drinks based on Spotify playlist themes. A curated photo zone and exclusive collectibles further contributed to the event’s immersive nature.

the indie rock band’s set featured fan-favorite tracks such as “APEX,” “Juxtaposition,” and “NO PAIN.”

Moreover, the live performance led up to the first live performance of “南宮FEFERE” their new single with Japanese Breakfast. The group expressed their gratitude to Spotify for enabling a platform where their music and fans can meet in such a personal way.

“We’re excited to have shared our new song with the fans in such a unique setting. Thank you to Spotify for making Speakeasy Live happen. It’s a night we won’t forget.”

Content creator Sanghoon Moon from BDNS emceed the event. He guided the crowd through each moment and fostering a deeper connection between the artist and the audience.

Spotify’s Support of Korean Indie Music

The launch of Speakeasy Live with Silica Gel comes at a time when Korean indie rock is quickly gaining popularity on Spotify. Over the past year, K-rock streams on the platform have increased by 155%. More listeners around the world are tuning in at a growing rate. Spotify’s long-standing support for Korean indie began years ago, with its playlist—now called Indie Korea—highlighting local talent and introducing them to a global audience.

Since 2017, streams of Korean indie music on Spotify have increased by more than 150%, especially in key markets such as the U.S., Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia, and Thailand.

Building More Fan-First Moments

Speakeasy Live follows the success of other immersive fan events hosted by Spotify, including MAISON ENHYPEN. These initiatives are part of Spotify’s broader vision to create authentic, fan-centered experiences that transcend the screen.

“We’re proud of how Speakeasy Live brought Silica Gel and their fans together in a powerful way. Spotify will continue championing all forms of Korean music—indie, hip-hop, rock, and more—across both local and global stages.”

Gautam Talwar, General Manager of Spotify APAC.
