“Squid Game” Actors Share Stories of Tight Security While Acting for Season 2
Following the previous criticism from Korean media, more stories emerged on the high-level security behind “Squid Game” Season 2.
On Wednesday, the Korean media outlet TV Report shared that “Squid Game” Season 2 had been tightening its security against its actors, raising the industry’s expectations for the series.
One of the “Squid Game” Season 2 actors, Yang Dong Geun, shared his experience on an SBS program. The actor then explained the filming situation while acting for “Squid Game”, describing the tight-level security.
According to Yang Dong Geun, all the actors appearing in the series must sign a confidentiality agreement. And they had to sign the agreement every day before starting the filming process for the Netflix series.
“We take security very seriously. Each day of filming, they ensure we all sign a confidentiality agreement. Also, we must all equip our phones’ cameras with a security device. They are very serious about maintaining the highly controlled environment during filming.”
Yang Dong Geun.
In like manner, Kang Ha Neul also joked about the high-level security he experienced while acting for “Squid Game”Season 2. The actor stated it was impossible to say anything as his lips were under a witch’s curse.
“For now, I can simply confirm my appearance. Beyond that, my mouth seems like under a witch’s spells that stop me from saying anything more.”
Kang Ha Neul.
Park Gyu Young also shared a similar experience while acting for “Squid Game.”
“It’s difficult to give specific details about “Squid Game’, but we are having fun filming. The production team is approaching this with tremendous responsibility and passion. I will do my best so as not to fall short of their enthusiasm and commitment.”
Park Gyu Young.
Is It Excessive or Necessary?
Previously, South Korea’s media criticized the security level that “Squid Game” actors must experience for Season 2. They deemed the level of protection was too excessive as the actors were not even able to express their excitement.
Not only that, but these actors also appeared awkward—sometimes embarrassed—as they weren’t able to say anything about the series. And it happened even after their appearance in the series turned public.
However, with the rising expectations of the upcoming season, all eyes have been closely monitoring the progress of this series. Hence, even its creator, Director Hwang Dong Hyuk, stated he wouldn’t reveal details of the game even after they were ready. The production team did not allow any spoilers either.
“The games for Season 2 are all decided. But they absolutely cannot be disclosed as they will contribute to the biggest fun elements of the show.
So, no matter where you hear it from, please keep it absolutely confidential.”
Hwang Dong Hyuk.
The intense secrecy and security measures surrounding the filming of “Squid Game” Season 2 have sparked a debate: are they a necessary or simply signs of paranoia from the production team?
“Squid Game,” Netflix’s trailblazing series, has shattered viewing records and clinched six Emmy Awards since its 2021 debut. This stellar achievement has driven the show to new heights in the entertainment world.
In light of this, the tight security measures on set seem more justified than ever. Critics may label these precautions excessive, but they are crucial in preserving the series’ appeal.
Though a challenge for the cast, the enforced secrecy fuels global anticipation for the new season. This strategic move cleverly balances intrigue with audience expectations, tipping the scales in favor of necessary protection over perceived paranoia.
When’s the Release Date?
So, after all the heightened security, when will we be able to witness the release of “Squid Game” Season 2?
Actor Yang Dong Geun also explained during his interview that they were all still in the filming process. Therefore, the closest release date possible will be next year.
“We are still in the filming process now. I’m not sure, but it might be released next year.”
Yang Dong Geun.
