“The King’s Affection” Filming Location You Should Visit

1. Yongin Daejanggeum Park (용인 대장금 파크)

Most of the drama was filmed at the Daejanggeum Park in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. “The King’s Affection” is not the only drama that has used Daejanggeum Park as the filming place. Many historical Korean dramas have been filmed here, including “Moon Embracing the Sun” and the famous “Mr. Queen.”

Not only used for Kdrama filming location, but Yongin Daejanggeum Park was also used for making Kpop videos, such as Stray Kids “Double Knot (English Ver.)” performance Video, Agust D “Daechwita” music video, and ONEUS “가자 (LIT)” (Taekwondo Ver.)” performance video.

Located right next to Seoul, Yongin Dae Jang Geum Park is one of the largest historical dramas set in Korea. The set imitates buildings from the Samguk, Goryeo, and Joseon periods.

Originally, the set’s name was MBC Dramia because Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) owns the set. However, it changed to “Yongin Daejanggeum Park,” based on MBC’s 2003 historical drama “Dae Jang Geum” for promotional reasons.

What to do in Yongin Daejanggeum Park

When you decide to visit Daejanggeum Park, you must have spared much time to enjoy the filming set. Then, you can have a tour of some imitation of historical buildings. And yes, your camera must be fully-charged as you need to take lots of pictures.

Yongin Daejanggeum Park opens throughout the year. However, you have to pay attention to the opening hours: 9.00 am – 6.00 pm KST (Summer Season), 9.00 am – 5.00 pm KST (Winter Season).

2. Daesandong HanJoo House

The next filming location of “The King’s Affection” is the Daesandong HanJoo House in Hangae Village, Seongju District, in North Gyeongsang Province. The village is well-known for reflecting traditional Fengshui values.

What to do in Hangae Village

You can feel the old times when visiting the Hangae Village. Walk along stonewall road, and you’ll feel peace.

3. Mungyeongsaejae Open Set

In a city called Mungyeong, there is this open set where many historical dramas were filmed, including “Lovers of the Red Sky” and “The King’s Affection.” The fact that Mungyeongsaejae is a mountain pass in the middle of Korea provides perfect scenes for the dramas.

What to do in Mungyeongsaejae Open Set

First thing first, you’ll get mesmerized by how grand the Mungyeongsaejae Open Set is! Having a leisure walk while taking beautiful pictures is a must here. However, if you feel like you don’t want to walk too much, you can take the tour bus while admiring the richness of Korean culture. And don’t miss the chance to dress up like a historical Korean monarch and pose on a throne.

4. Munheon Confucian Academy (Munheon Seowon)

The Munheon Seowon is located in Seocheon, South Chungcheong Province. Initially, the academy was built to pay tribute to the memory of Lee Gok and Lee Saek, well-respected writers, and their work. Unfortunately, the academy was burnt down during the Imjin War and was rebuilt in 1610.

What to do in Munheon Seowon

During your visit to Munheon Seowon, you need to show full respect. Not only the academy consists of an educational area and a shrine, but it also keeps the mortuary tablets of five Confucian scholars, including Lee Jong-hak, Lee Ja, Lee Gae, as well as Lee Gok and Lee Saek.

You can experience the Darye (tea ceremony) in Munheon Seowon. Moreover, it’s also a perfect time to learn essential knowledge and skills by joining Seowon special lecture, Chung hyo ye lecture, and etiquette lesson.

5. Dorongi Pond

Last but not least, “The King’s Affection” filming location that you should visit is the Dorongi Pond. Located in Taebaek of Gangwon Province, it’s the place where the young Jung Ji-woon and young Lee Hwi met for the first time in “The King’s Affection.”

What to do at Dorongi Pond

Although Dorongi Pond is quite unfamous, you can still walk around and enjoy nature. But if that’s not enough, you can also visit some nearby places in Taebaek, such as the Geomnyongso Pond, Taebaek Coal Museum, Yongyeon Cave, and even Taekbaeksan National Park.
