8 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Be Kpop Fans

Korean pop or Kpop is very popular nowadays. Many old and new Kpop idols and songs dominate the music market, not only in Korea but also worldwide. The number of Kpop fans also shows rapid growth. However, if you are new to the Kpop world, you must read the reasons why you shouldn’t be Kpop fans. You have to be aware of these things.

1. KPop songs are so addictive.

Try to listen to one of many Kpop songs on Apple Music or Spotify or even YouTube. Just listen. I’ll give you this song, and just try to enjoy it. After the song is finished, is it stuck in our brain, like the song is still playing -in your mind? If you listen to Kpop songs once, you can’t stop doing so. You are craving for more and more Kpop songs. And it’s hard to get those Kpop songs you have heard out of your mind.

2. Kpop is not like typical American music.

Well, nowadays, American music is dominated by topics like money and sex. But Kpop, it’s none of those. Moreover, Kpop has various genres: pop, indie, RnB, hip-hop, rap, and so much more.

3. Kpop dances are difficult.

Look at how those Kpop idols dance! I mean, what movements do they have? It seems that you can’t understand every step of their dances. But then you realize you have no idea why your body is still moving, trying to keep up with the beat. Yeah, Korean pop idols are good dancers. You should work harder to learn their dances.

4. Kpop music videos are weird and hard to understand

When you first watch a Kpop music video, you might find it weird and crazy. Oftentimes, they fill the music videos with symbols and metaphors. If you’re new in the Korean pop world, it might take some time (days, weeks, months, or even years) to realize the actual meaning of the lyric and music video. Though, there are some sites providing lyrics and its (probably) hidden meaning, like Genius.

5. Mixed Language!

This is the other reason why you shouldn’t be Kpop fans. You might mishear some lyrics since they mix Korean and English, and even other languages. Here, I give you one Kpop misheard lyric from Jennie’s song, Solo.

Original: 빛이 나는 (Bi-chi Na neun) solo
Misheard: B*tch I’m going solo

6. Kpop idols appearance is not real!

Have I told you that Kpop idols are too cute, too beautiful, and too handsome? Yes, they are! Look at this guy called “Worldwide Handsome,” and you won’t get enough looking at him.

Look at this female Kpop idol, too. According to kprofiles.com, this girl, Tzuyu, is mentioned as #2 prettiest female Kpop idol.

7. Not only music, but you’ll also fed with variety shows and such!

You know, there are lots of things provided by Kpop idols. They do not only sing and dance but also appear in variety shows, documentaries, and such. Each Korean pop idol or group also offers merchandise for you to purchase. There will be so many things you need even to catch up!

8. Once you get into their fandom, you won’t be able to get out.

What is Kpop fandom? It’s similar to other types of fandoms. If you like BTS, you’re in their fandom called ARMY, or you like MONSTA X, you’re in Monbebe; if you like Blackpink, you’re in BLINK, or you like Red Velvet, you’re in ReVeLuv; and so on. Each fandom has a different meaning behind its name.

So, if you decide to be Kpop fans, you must remember 8 things mentioned above and won’t regret your decision.
