On August 23, Korean media reported that BTS free global concert in Busan had triggered severe concerns and complaints from the residents.

Global Kpop phenomenon BTS previously confirmed on August 24 that they would hold their global concert in Busan for FREE. This free global concert is a form of support from HYBE and BTS for Busan bidding process for World Expo 2030. And they will hold the concert on Saturday, October 15 at 6 PM KST at Busan Ilgwang Special Stage.

In normal circumstances, every BTS concert has proven to bring tremendous excitement and anticipation from fans. However, this time, since the global concert in Busan will be held for free, the exhilarating anticipation possibly brought massive attendees to the concert, even more than BTS regular shows. 

That is why even when the organizers prepared the show for around 100,000 fans, the public expected more people to come. 

Severe Complaints from Local Residents – What Happened?

Following the free concert confirmation, Busan residents began voicing their complaints. That is because although Ilgwang special stage can cover 100,000 audience, it does not have a large enough area to support such a massive performance, unlike venues in Seoul.

Besides, Ilgwang Special Stage belongs to the area with heavy traffic even in normal circumstances. Therefore, the public is concerned that BTS upcoming free concert will possibly cause an extreme hazard to the area.

In addition, reports also mentioned that some hotels and accommodations had increased their price 10 times the regular rates on the concert day. Some even displayed rates of 8.9 million won for 2 nights (approximately 6,631 USD).

Worse situations also reportedly emerged as some accommodations even one-sidedly canceled their previous reservations to get the new ones at a much higher price.

Due to this situation, the public complained because the government didn’t meticulously check regarding the circumstances of the venue and its surrounding area.

The Busan Government Plans to Give Guidelines to Stabilize Fares for BTS Free Global Concert to Support World Expo 2030 Busan Bidding

Eventually, with the rising concerns and complaints from the local residents, the Busan government plans to provide guidelines.

They plan to conduct a joint investigation and inspection, requesting the businesses involved to make appropriate rates. This measure is to make sure there will be more stabilized fares for the upcoming BTS free global concerts for World Expo 2030 Busan.

However, fans are still concerned as there are no enforced pricing rules, only suggestions. 

Meanwhile, complaints also emerged about safety issues around the area. That is especially when the road surrounding the venue is relatively small. 

Following these concerns, the Busan government plans to make these roads ‘no-car’ zones and potentially arrange a special shuttle for the attendees.

Still, fans ask the general public to keep paying attention to the preparation process for BTS free global concert for World Expo 2030 Busan. Since this is the first time for Busan to hold such a large-scale performance, fans are worried that if something happens due to the lack of preparation, BTS and HYBE will take all the blame.
