As evening came, the sky darkened again. The storm clouds finally let go of everything they’d been holding in, making strange noises. I thought, Wow, I’m so lucky I don’t have a training mission today. But just an hour later, the rain suddenly stopped—maybe the clouds went too hard, too fast, or maybe they were getting ready for round two. The clouds stayed, but the sky cleared up. Sunlight peeked through, casting deep shadows and brilliant rays of light. It was a breathtaking sight, but I didn’t have a camera to capture it.
It reminded me of a November morning when snow gently covered the fallen leaves in an empty field, creating a lonely but beautiful scene. I also recalled my first mission, looking out at an endless stretch of mountains and thinking, I can’t believe I’m seeing this in Korea. I remember a night during ambush training when the moon shone brightly and the sky filled with stars. I remember the moment the seasons changed, the air smelled different, and for a brief moment, in the middle of a grueling training session, I caught the scent of sand and the ocean, making me feel nostalgic all day.
What I’m trying to say is… I just want to share the good things I experience, the little joys, the things I see and feel. I want to share them with you. Even though I don’t get to see you often, I still want to tell you what’s in my heart. But I don’t want to burden you, so… I guess what I really mean to say is—I miss you.
Overall, it was a good weekend. I had time to reflect, to write. I even thought about what I’d do after discharge—maybe I’ll travel to Japan, or somewhere far like Northern Europe. Being around younger guys here, I even considered going back to school. Would that mean we could be students together? But honestly, when is my discharge again?
Looking back, it’s already been eight months since I enlisted. But looking forward, I still have over a year left. Haha. So, with that said… I hope you’ll keep looking after me.
