ILLIT Members Makes Fastest Climb on Billboard Charts with Kpop Single “Magnetic”
Behold the power of the new 5th generation super rookie and the new girl group of HYBE, ILLIT! It has been only 2 weeks after their official debut, but the new girl group has climbed impressively fast on the global music chart, Billboard.
On April 8, KST, Billboard shared the latest chart preview on their official social media accounts. In this preview, Billboard revealed that ILLIT members had managed to secure the #8 position on its renowned “Global 200” chart with “Magnetic.” Along with it, ILLIT also landed at #2 on the Billboard Global chart, excluding the US.

Unexpectedly, ILLIT “Magnetic” managed to rise 55 and 31 positions on Billboard charts, respectively, compared to the week before.
And what will shock you the most is that ILLIT has made the highest debut achievement for all Kpop groups despite their gender. With 56.3 million streams and more than 3,000 downloads in a week, ILLIT is now the fastest Kpop group to climb up the Billboard chart with their debut single, “Magnetic.”
Are They REALLY Just a Copy of NewJeans?
If you’re paying close attention to this new rookie, you will realize that they possess a similar vibe and concept to another Kpop group, NewJeans.
On the surface, its fresh, youthful, and easy-listening concept might be peculiarly alike, and you might have thought that ILLIT is a mere copy of NewJeans. After all, many have suspected HYBE to just go with what’s popular and simply repeat the same pattern.
However, it turns out that both girl groups have entirely different concepts.
Debuted on March 25, 2024, the basic concept of ILLIT is actually a dreamlike fantasy. Debuted under HYBE’s label, Belift Lab, ILLIT members wanted to immerse viewers and listeners in a creative, imaginative world with cute and lovely fairytale images. That is why many have described their “Magnetic” track as over-immersive and lively. And as you can see their fashion choices revolve around a fairy-like and princessy vibe.
While the appearance may be similar, it is an entirely new idea compared to NewJeans. That is because NewJeans’ basic concept revolves around blending Y2K retro and modern elements. They’re aiming for those vintage and nostalgic feelings as shown in their debut song “Attention” and later on “Ditto.”
Therefore, while both members of ILLIT and NewJeans demonstrate youthful and refreshing vibes, if you see beyond their appearances and focus on the entire concept, you will immediately notice the striking difference.
ILLIT members came straight from the fairytale land, while NewJeans members are beautiful young girls making their time travel from the Y2K era.
