Despite having the most highly-anticipated couple, YoonA and Lee Junho, King the Land Korean drama continues to bring massive disappointment to the viewers. Check out the following reasons why King the Land is such an enormous flop compared to its predecessor, A Business Proposal, according to Korean media.
YoonA and Lee Junho New Drama is a Big Failure Despite Their Impressive Performance & Chemistry
King the Land drama starring Girls’ Generation YoonA and 2PM’s Lee Junho continues to disappoint viewers!
Despite its impressive cast lineup and outstanding performance, King the Land Korean drama brings more cringe due to its second-rate quality. This massive disappointment even brought Korean media to consider the drama as a huge flop, especially in comparison to its predecessor with a similar genre, A Business Proposal.
On June 24, Korean media outlet MyDaily discussed the viewers’ disappointment towards King the Land. Initially, the viewers’ expectations were skyrocketing for the magnificent casting of YoonA and Lee Junho. However, the Korean media believed the drama’s quality had fallen short.
Instead of having skyrocketing reputation due to YoonA and Junho’s wonderful chemistry, viewers’ response to King the Land Korean drama significantly decreased along with its episode.
What happened to King the Land?
Reasons Why KING THE LAND Korean Drama is an Epic Fail
1. Unoriginal and Predictable Scenes
The first reason why the Korean media viewed King the Land Korean drama as an epic fail was due to its unoriginal and predictable scenes.
The first scene, in particular, was when Goo Won made his first parachute entrance as an intern. The parachute scene was supposed to be extravagant, proving his unordinary status. However, since the same scene had already appeared in last year’s drama Gaus Electronics, it only shows the production team’s lack of creativity and originality.
In addition, there was another scene where Goo Won revealed his position as the chairman’s son. However, instead of giving cool and charming vibes to the viewers, the particular scene became extremely cliché and unappealing.
Moreover, despite Lee Junho’s charming depiction of Goo Won, his scenes further proved the lack of imagination from the King the Land production team. The moments when the employees seemed shocked to realize who Goo Won really was and when Goo Won instantly hired intern Noh Sang Sik as a full-time employee were too mediocre and predictable.
Nothing was fresh and original about these moments, making the Korean drama more boring even when Lee Junho delivered the perfect demonstration of his character.
2. Excessive Directing
Along with its cliché and predictable scenes, King the Land drama starring YoonA and Lee Junho lacks directing skills.
The Korean drama showcased excessive directing, especially during a scene when intern Noh Sang Sik got fired after spilling toner on the copier. During the scene, the department head became mad at the intern and told him to “get lost and don’t come to work from now on,” even after Goo Won tries to defend him.
Korean media outlets argue that the firing of an intern due to a single, trivial mistake portrays an unrealistic scenario.
3. False Prejudice and Lack of Maturity
And finally, King the Land Korean drama starring YoonA and Lee Junho only showed false prejudice towards females and its characters’ lack of maturity.
The drama demonstrated this poor mindset especially when a female senior employee commented Cheon Sa Rang’s being ‘unnecessarily pretty’. Then, the drama presented scenes where the seniors began harassing Cheon Sa Rang.
According to the Korean media, these scenes blatantly revealed the false prejudice that women that possess good visuals would easily become the object of jealousy and hatred of other women. It only shows the production team’s lack of maturity for believing such a mindset still.
Not only that, but the drama also provided a scene where a female employee immediately approached Noh Sang Sik after assuming he was the chairman’s son. The Korean media believed that this scene had brought massive discomfort to the viewers. It was shallow and extremely offensive.

4. Inferior Match to A BUSINESS PROPOSAL
Ultimately, YoonA and Junho’s King the Land Korean drama pales in comparison to its predecessor in the same genre, A Business Proposal.
The Korean media believed that A Business Proposal provided an extraordinary experience despite its typical settings. It broke through the cliché concept of romance between a chaebol heir and an ordinary woman. Its witty and sophisticated lines were fresh and new, bringing a whole new entertainment even when the drama started with a familiar concept.
Furthermore, A Business Proposal also demonstrated creativity at its finest when the director blended animation pictures into the drama. Not only it highlighted its webtoon-adaptation nature, it also brings charming visual effects for the audience.
And most importantly, A Business Proposal delivered a well-educated message on gender equality.
A Business Proposal showed a specific scene of a manager discussing stereotypes against female employees. It discussed how the CEO’s personal information was essential for them to rise in status.
However, another manager rebutted him during the scene. She stated that it was not for “female” employees only, but all employees in general.
“It’s employees. Not female employees. Stop making sexist remarks and talk about rising in status. Focus on the approval documents instead!”

Lack of Strategy Results in Banality
At the end of the day, even when the two projects stemmed from the same cliché concept of romance between a male chaebol heir and an ordinary female character, A Business Proposal and King the Land brought completely opposite results.
A Business Proposal successfully brought freshness and creative additions to its familiar cliches. As a result, the drama’s fresh ideas bring memorable excitement as the story unfolds. And it touched the viewers’ hearts even more with its familiar approach.
In contrast, King the Land Korean drama only wasted YoonA and Lee Junho’s talents with its dull and boring development. It became an epic fail due to a lack of strategy and repetitive cliches. Similar concepts do not guarantee success without well-delivered execution and creativity.
Therefore, many believe that King the Land Korean drama will not end as successfully as A Business Proposal even when they started with the same familiar ideas.
