The Controversy Surrounding SM Entertainment New Kpop Boy Group Member RIIZE Seunghan
For the first time in years, South Korean prominent company SM Entertainment finally launched their new Kpop boy group, RIIZE (pronounced ‘rise’). Amidst the concerning issue within the company’s management, SM Entertainment still proves its promising future in the industry by launching a new Kpop boy group 7 years after NCT project.
Unfortunately, this new Kpop boy group from SM has encountered more setbacks on their road to success. After previously facing controversy related its member Sohee, RIIZE is now facing another controversy involving another one of its members, Seunghan.
Previously, photos have been circulating on the internet and social media of RIIZE member Seunghan and his past relationship with a former girlfriend. However, the controversy ignited when one photo showed RIIZE Seunghan kissing the girl in public, and another showed him kissing her in bed.
Indeed, there was no detailed information available as to where and when the photos were taken. However, looking at the appearance of the new SM Kpop boy group member, fans believe that RIIZE Seunghan took the photos recently.
What’s appalling about the controversy was the circulating rumors saying RIIZE Seunghan had taken these photos while visiting a hotel/motel with the lady involved. The controversy grew after details surfaced that RIIZE Seunghan had visited the hotel during his trainee days with the woman, who was revealed to be underage.
Based on his hairstyle, ear piercing, and other clues, fans believe that these photos were taken right after RIIZE Seunghan was introduced as an SM ROOKIES member.
RIIZE Seunghan Apologizes for the Kpop Controversy + Reportedly Broke Down in Tears
Since the circulating photos have caused massive controversy among Kpop fans, both SM Entertainment and its new Kpop boy group member RIIZE Seunghan issued an official statement and apology.
“Hello, this is RIIZE Seunghan.
Before standing in front of our fans, I felt responsible to write this message.
First and foremost, I extend my heartfelt apologies to the fans who have supported RIIZE.
During a crucial period leading up to our debut, I have negatively impacted the group because of my personal issues. Also, I have let down our company’s staff and fellow members.
I am truly sorry for not apologizing sooner due to my fear and anxiety. The situation arose from my negligence, and I can’t shift the blame or offer excuses. I have taken time to reflect on my actions.
Moving forward, my primary focus will be on RIIZE. I will be cautious in all circumstances, beyond just our performances. I will strive to demonstrate my genuine commitment to RIIZE and our fans through my future actions.
Once more, I apologize. Thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy message.”RIIZE Seunghan.
Along with the official apology, a fan stated that RIIZE Seunghan had broken down in tears while greeting fans at the “M! Countdown” pre-recording.
“Seunghan was the last one to greet the fans. During his greetings, some fans shouted that they loved him. Then, while saying, ‘I apologize for discussing this at such a happy place…’ he suddenly started crying.
As he sobbed, Sungchan hugged him. The other members seemed clueless and didn’t know what to do until Shotaro said they should say their closing remarks.”a testimony from a “M! Countdown” pre-recording audience.
SM Entertainment Publishes Official Statement about the New Kpop Boy Group Member Issues
Meanwhile, SM Entertainment published an official statement about the new Kpop boy group situation. The company promised to proceed into legal action against the original sources who have spread the pictures.
“The unauthorized sharing of RIIZE Seunghan photos is unequivocally against the law. We are gathering information on the individuals who uploaded the images, utilizing resources like Kwangya119 and other monitoring tools.

Legal action will be taken against any identified individuals who are found to have broken the law. We strongly advise against becoming entangled in this regrettable situation.
In the meantime, Seunghan is deeply remorseful for the harm and disappointment he has inflicted upon his team, especially given the timing just before his debut.”SM Entertainment.
Mixed Reactions About RIIZE Seunghan Controversy
Following the apology and official statement, Kpop fans and Korean netizens expressed their strong reactions to RIIZE Seunghan controversy. While many fans still have faith in the promising SM new boy group member, others expressed their strong disapproval.
Some comments demanded that RIIZE Seunghan leave the new SM Entertainment Kpop boy group due to the severity of the controversy. Some fans even planned to send a protest truck, demanding SM Entertainment to remove RIIZE Seunghan from the new boy group. That is especially when RIIZE has yet officially debuted.
Will He REALLY Leave the Kpop Group?
Finally, will RIIZE Seunghan really leave the SM Entertainment new Kpop boy group eventually?
As of today, no detailed information is currently available. However, seeing that RIIZE will soon debut on September 4, it is highly unlikely that Seunghan will leave the SM new boy group.
After all, while photos showing RIIZE Seunghan kissing a girl was a fact, statements saying the girlfriend was a minor, and that they took the photos in a hotel/motel remained unproven speculations.
That is why it is best ot to jump to conclusions based solely on unfounded rumors.
Meanwhile, let us wait for RIIZE official debut on September 4 at 6 PM KST with its first album, “Get A Guitar”.
