Indeed, the “Permission to Dance on Stage” LA concert will have concluded when MAMA 2021 begins. However, it is still highly possible that the millennial King of Pop, BTS, will not attend the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) ceremony.

On December 2, various media reported that it is highly unlikely for BTS to attend the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards, even when all their US schedule will have concluded.

South Korean Updated Overseas Self-Quarantine Measures

According to the media reports, BTS inability to attend MAMA 2021 was due to the recent South Korean updated overseas self-quarantine measures.

Due to the recent spread of the new ‘Omicron’ Coronavirus in various regions worldwide, the government of South Korea decided to level up its regulations regarding overseas travelers. Therefore, despite having a complete vaccination status, it is mandatory for ALL travelers arriving in South Korea to conduct self-quarantine for 10 days.

And this regulation will apply to all travelers arriving in South Korea starting from December 3.

MAMA 2021 Will Have Concluded by the Time BTS Finishes Mandatory Quarantine

Currently, BTS is still busy with their US schedule, especially for their “PTD on Stage” LA concert. Therefore, they will be staying in the US from November 27 until their schedule finishes after performing at the iHeart Radio Jingle Ball 2021 with Ed Sheeran and Dua Lipa on December 3.

Therefore, there’s a high chance that BTS will return to South Korea on December 4, which means that the regulation will have already been up and running. By the time BTS finishes their self-quarantine on December 14, MAMA 2021 will have already been concluded.

BTS Had Decided NOT to Attend MAMA 2021 in Advance

However, apparently, the fact that BTS will not attend MAMA 2021 had been previously made in advance. According to South Korean media, BTS had previously announced their intention not to attend the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards. Therefore, there will be no change in the MAMA 2021 schedule and lineup artists.

BTS WILL Send a Video Message

Still, even though they will not attend the ceremony, BTS WILL send a video message to their fans, confirmed by a representative from CJ ENM.

“We have been discussing BTS’s attendance at the ‘2021 MAMA’, but ultimately, the group will not attend the ceremony this year. Due to scheduling issues, it will be difficult to produce a pre-recorded performance film in time; however, BTS plan to prepare a short video greeting for fans.”
