It wasn’t easy initially for most of the leading stars in the Kpop world. However, if you’re meant to be a star, then somehow, somewhere, it just works out. There will be many ways how to become Kpop stars. There is no denying that hard work is the constant need to be successful, but for some, it was just fate/luck (whatever you call it). Some were spotted and given a chance to audition while on their way back home, and some were approached in a washroom at some event, somewhere. It’s funny yet amazing how it all worked out for these young Kpop idols. While most find their way in standard ways, some got their first breakthrough unique ways.
Here’s taking a look at some of the most popular idols in the Kpop world who have made their way in unconventional, unique ways.
Before signing a contract with SM Entertainment, Karina was a popular face among many due to her social media presence. SM Entertainment first approached her through a direct message. When she first got that message, she informed her parents about it, and they all thought it was a fraud because, well, why not? A deal coming through via direct message on social media is indeed hard to believe. However, SM Entertainment then sent across a business card, and that’s when the deal worked out for both parties, and she was accepted as a trainee.
In an episode of ‘Knowing Bros,’ 2PM Wooyoung once revealed that he auditioned to become a member of Wonder Girls, despite knowing he would fail, only to catch the attention of JYP Entertainment casting scouts. He then auditioned in smaller agencies and kept auditioning for JYP Entertainment every six months. He finally won first place in an audition by JYP Entertainment in 2007 and then got a chance to debut with 2PM in 2008. A perfect example of someone who did not give up and kept trying till he found his way.
Mingyu got lucky on the streets! Very few get the chance that Mingyu got, and we are so glad that he did. Could not imagine the entertainment world without him. It was a regular day as Mingyu was heading back home when a representative approached him from Pledis Entertainment near the front gate of his middle school. He was definitely not prepared for an audition at the time, and he could not sing or dance like he does today. However, he somehow managed by singing the national anthem and performing few dance moves. Despite all that, he was still considered and trained to be a rapper. Just a regular day, he must have thought, but luck finds its way to those who deserve it?
Suzy auditioned for Mnet’s ‘Superstar K’ and had made it through the preliminary round. However, she was eliminated from the program. Though she may have thought at that point that things were not in her favor, it somehow turned the other way round. JYP Entertainment’s casting scout spotted her at this point, and she was then trained. Soon after that, she debuted with Miss A.
ITZY Ryujin way to fame started at a concert by JYP Entertainment. She was in the line, waiting for her turn to the restroom when a representative from JYP Entertainment approached her and asked her for her number. Ryujin later revealed that though she found it strange, she decided to give her number because she found the lady cute. We are very fortunate that she decided to give her number.
GOT7 Jay B
Before signing his contract with JYP Entertainment, Jay B was a part of the underground breakdance scene. A JYP Entertainment representative also approached him while he was in the washroom. He had come to audition for a breakdance competition. It’s now pretty clear that the casting scout of JYP Entertainment keeps a close eye on the lines in the washroom to find the next big hit.
Sehun was with a couple of friends eating tteokbokki when he caught the attention of an SM Entertainment representative. His parents often told Sehun not to talk to strangers, and hence when he was approached, he ran away. He ran for a good 30 minutes, but even SM Entertainment’s scout did not give up and ran behind him. Finally, they were able to speak. The representative then convinced Sehun.
SM Entertainment talent scout approached Changmin while he was playing badminton and singing in his gym class. At that point, though, Changmin rejected the offer for an audition. However, when he discussed the same with his mother, her mother convinced him to go for the audition. It was meant for him indeed as he passed the audition and soon debuted with TVXQ.
One of famous Kpop stars, Jaemin, caught the attention of the talent scout of SM Entertainment while he was volunteering for an event with his mother. Jaemin was busy distributing posters and collecting trash when the representative approached him. As per reports, Jaemin was struggling with his studies, and hence when his mother saw him being approached for an audition, she told him to do the same immediately.
IZ*ONE Ahn Yujin
An email, that’s all it took for IZ*ONE Ahn Yujin how she become one of the famous Kpop stars. She sent her auditions to Starship Entertainment via email, and she passed the same. She competed on Produce 48 representing Starship Entertainment, and soon after, she had her debut with IZ*ONE.
SM Entertainment approached Lucas at their global auditions in Hong Kong. Lucas once revealed that he went blank during the audition. He did not know what to sing or dance. However, he didn’t give up; the idol instead modeled for the representatives. He showed them his walk and displayed his three signature poses.
No matter how they become Kpop stars, we are glad that they came onboard. We could not imagine entertainment without them! We only hope that they continue to achieve success as they climb up the ladder.
