KING THE LAND KDrama Denies Disrespecting Arab Prince in Episode 7 and Refuses Apology
The controversy surrounding YoonA and Lee Junho’s new Kdrama, King the Land, continues. After receiving terrible reviews and being accused of wasting the promising skills and chemistry of the main cast, King the Land’s issues have apparently stretched further into horrible disrespect against the Arab Prince and culture.
In Episode 7, King the Land featured a guest, a charming Prince of Arab named Prince Samir, portrayed by the Squid Game’s pride actor Anupam Tripathi. Unfortunately, the portrayal of the Arab Prince Samir in Episode 7 of King the Land Kdrama was extremely disrespectful towards the royal family and culture.
In response, fans from around the globe rallied against King the Land on various social media platforms. They demanded King the Land Kdrama production team revise the details and apologize for disrespecting the Arab Prince and culture.
They brought an Indian actor, put him in Arab traditional clothes, and make him act as if he’s uneducated and obsessed with alcohol and girls… this is extremely disrespectful and offensive. We need an apology.#JTBCAPOLOGIZE#KingTheLandEp7#KingTheLand— رين (@areayiein) July 9, 2023
i hate the way us arabs were being portrayed in king the land… Like yes there are arabs that drink and flirt or whatever but the kind of arabs they are portraying are middle eastern were its mostly muslims that don't drink nor touch women.#KingTheLand— winter. (@utwooi) July 9, 2023
Today, the production team behind King the Land released a statement addressing the portrayal of Prince Samir in Episode 7. However, instead of apologizing for the mistake, they denied all the accusations.
KING THE LAND Kdrama Team: “Prince Samir in Episode 7 is Fiction”
In the statement, King the Land production team denied all the allegations. Instead, they said everything about Prince Samir in King the Land episode 7 was pure fiction. The character had no affiliations to certain places and regions.
“The characters, regions, names, and places appearing in the drama are all fictitious settings. They do not depict princes of a specific country.”King the Land production team.
Fans Are Even More Furious!
Due to this denial from King the Land production team, fans are getting even more furious. Instead of owning the mistake and apologizing, the production team keeps denying facts that are clearly visible to the public.
Fans argue that Prince Samir speaking Arabic and wearing distinct Arabian outfits in Episode 7 of King the Land is sufficient to identify him as an Arab Prince. But most importantly, the Kdrama explicitly mentioned that King the Land Prince Samir was an “Arab wangja”, which literally translated to “Arab Prince”.
Therefore, it is unacceptable for the production team to deny these clear details. And fans are getting even more furious that the King the Land team refuses to apologize for this disrespect.
